From time to time you may encounter this error on a newly P2V system. In the past it was a registry fix but now Microsoft has a prefered GUI solution:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe

Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and press ENTER

Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC, and press ENTER

Click View, and then click Show Hidden Devices

Expand the Network Adapters

Right-click on the dimmed network adapter, and then click Uninstall
